Every year, Pantone, the colour organisation, puts out a representative colour for the year, this year it’s “Very Peri”. The psychology behind their selection is “carefree confidence and daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit”.
There will be critics of this concept who disregard the idea or effort as trivial, but for creatives, “it doesn’t matter what you are creating, but that you are creating”. The pursuit of a single idea, like the colour of the year, inspires collaboration of ideas that are drawn from experience and, dare I say, drives progress through art.
To achieve this simple idea of creating the “colour of the year” Pantone has drawn inspiration from global culture, the entertainment industry, film, photography, art collections, fashion, travel, lifestyle and socio-economic conditions, highlighting that creativity is synonymous with collaboration.
Some of my best ideas were inspired over coffee with friends or colleagues, so how’s this for an idea? If collaboration enhances creativity and creativity amplifies change and change drives progress, shouldn’t we meet for coffee?
